HIGH POINT, N.C. – The University of Akron track and field team recorded six victories as part of 23 overall top-five finishes on the final day of the Bob Davidson Team Challenge on Saturday (March 23).
As part of the team challenge, the men finished in second place with 138 points, while the women placed fifth with 72 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Redshirt senior Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) captured the men's 400 meters in a time of 47.02, while senior Jameel Williamson (Columbus, Ohio) placed third in 48.66.
• Redshirt junior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) took the line first in the men's 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.53.
• Freshman AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) finished first in the men's 200 meters in a career-best time of 21.21.
• Junior Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) finished second in the women's 400-meter hurdles in a time of. 63.26.
• Junior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a career-best mark of 55-1.50 (16.80m).
• Sophomore Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) was third in the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 56.09.
• Senior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was third in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-3.50 (7.10m)
• The men's 4x100 relay team of sophomore Tysean Baronette (Middletown, Del.), redshirt senior Quentin Woodall (Cleveland, Ohio), Jordan and freshman Andrew Styles (Freeport, The Bahamas) crossed the line first in 40.28, while the men's 4x400 relay squad of Sanders, Styles, Jordan and Harkelroad bested the field in 3:10.80.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Horn, junior Jamari Davis (Ontario, Calif.), redshirt junior Janay Bass (Akron, Ohio) and junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) bested the field in a time of 3:43.57.
