Lafferty Collects 5 RBI in Akron's 11-7 Win Against Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio - Austin Lafferty collected five RBI to help propel the Akron Zips over the Wright State Raiders 11-7 on Tuesday.
Lafferty went 2-for-5 with a triple in addition to his five RBIÂ for the Zips. Charlie Schebler compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Max Bowman also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBI.
Emmett Gillies (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (5-14). The right-hander went one inning, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on one hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Josiah Ross also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard starting in the second inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Lafferty.
The Zips then held the Raiders scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Akron picked up two runs when a single from Lafferty brought home Andrew Horvath and Schebler, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Zips.
Akron held Wright State without a run before building their lead to 9-0 the following inning. Akron recorded two runs, including one on a solo dinger from .
The Raiders gained ground, closing the gap to 9-3 until Akron added some insurance in the fifth. Jack Poist crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, bringing the Akron advantage to 10-3.
Wright State got within 10-5 until the Zips scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 11-5. Akron picked up a run on Schebler's one-out solo home run off of senior Wes Earles. Wright State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Zips still coasted to the 11-7 win.
