Zips Volleyball Look to Continue Momentum for Three Matches this Week

AKRON, Ohio – After a 3-0 showing at the Marshall Invitational over the weekend, the Zips look to continue the momentum into three matches on September 6 and September 8.

Wednesday's match will feature Akron traveling to face the Cleveland State Vikings at 6 p.m. for a match while Friday's doubleheader will be the Zips first home matches of the season as they host Harvard at 11 a.m. and Bucknell at 6 p.m. in James A. Rhodes Arena.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Faith Johnson earned Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week with a team-best 46 kills to go along with a .324 hitting percentage. Johnson also recorded 53.5 points en route to earning Marshall Invitational Tournament MVP and all-tournament team honors. The Zips went 3-0 last weekend as they defeated Morehead State (3-1), Marshall (3-2), and UNC Greensboro (3-0) to move to 3-3 on the season. Vanessa Del Real and Eliska Vytiskova lead the team in service aces with 12 a piece in six matches. Vytiskova is also averaging 5.7 assists per set to lead the team.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Cleveland State University is 4-2 coming into Wednesday's match after a lost against Eastern Kentucky in the 2023 Miami/Best Western Invitational. As a team, the Vikings are averaging 10.95 kills per set and 14.68 digs per set. Laken Voss has recorded 75 kills for Cleveland State while Emma Walker has recorded 88 digs in 22 sets.
The Crimson will enter the week undefeated on the season after beating Stonehill College (3-0), the University of New Hampshire (3-2), and Holy Cross (3-1) in the Harvard Invitational last weekend. It's Harvard's best start in 22 years. Ashley Wang posted two triple-doubles on Saturday with totals of 22 kills, 41 assists, and 30 digs. Harvard also had three players named to the all-tournament team, Wang, Ariana White, and Lindsey Zhang.
Bucknell is coming off their Bucknell Invitational in which they posted a 1-2 record against William & Mary, Cornell, and Princeton. Catherine Jamison has scored 67 points in her twenty sets this season and leads the Bison with 61 kills. Jordan Hardy is averaging 5.5 digs per set. Riley Tucker and Sidney Shaffer each have 11 blocks six matches in.
