Zips Win 3-0 Again Over Kent State

AKRON, OH --The Akron volleyball team walked away with a second straight 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) against the Kent State Golden Flashes Friday at home at James A Rhodes Arena.
The victory boosted the Zips' record to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in MAC play. Kent State falls to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the MAC.
Faith Johnson finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Zips attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .360. Akron got 11 digs from Vanessa Del Real along with five blocks from Eliska Vytiskova to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips jumped out to an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-16. Akron never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Zips took over the lead. Akron also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set and got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Kent State attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron built on a set-one win by securing a 25-19 victory in set two. The Zips grabbed the set with the help of a strong performance on the attacking end. Akron registered a .313 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Zips ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from six aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron took the third set to win in straight sets for the second night in a row. The Zips led from the opening point on in the set to secure a 25-19 victory. Akron opened up as much as a seven point lead at 24-17 before closing out the set.
