AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron volleyball team hosts two MAC play matches on Thursday and Friday at James A. Rhodes Arena against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.

The Zips (8-7, 3-1 MAC) look to continue their winning ways from last week this week against Eastern Michigan (2-15, 0-5 MAC) on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Central Michigan (8-9, 2-3 MAC) on Friday at 6 p.m. Both matches will be a part of the University of Akron Homecoming celebrations and Friday's match is Volleyball Alumni Day.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Akron volleyball is coming off three-set sweeps against Kent State on both Thursday and Friday to boost their in-conference record to 3-1. The Zips also had two players named as MAC Player of the Week – Faith Johnson was named the East Division Player of the Week after having a total of 23 kills, 10 digs, and a .360 hitting percentage. In Thursday's match, she also had a match-high 3 aces. Eliska Vytiskova has 511 assists on the season, including 63 on the weekend that helped lead her to earn MAC East Division Setter of the Week.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Eastern Michigan will come into Akron on a nine-game losing streak, including being swept by Ball State on Friday and Saturday. Ava Siefke recorded 20 kills in the two matches, while Hannah Howard led the Eagles defensively with 30 digs.
The Chippewas of Central Michigan split with Toledo on Saturday and Sunday for their Alumni Weekend. They will come to James A. Rhodes Arena to face the Zips on Friday after facing Buffalo on Thursday evening. On Sunday, Central Michigan had a sweep of the Rockets by closely contested sets, 25-23, 28-26 and 27-25.

The Akron Zips will begin a short road stint as they travel to Ball State for a two match series on Thursday October 12 and Friday October 13. Both matches will have a first serve at 6 p.m. on their respective dates.
