Zips Rack Up 10.5 Blocks in 3-0 Victory Over Eastern Michigan

AKRON, Ohio --The Akron volleyball team totaled 10.5 blocks en route to a three-set sweep (25-17, 25-18, 25-22) over the Eastern Michigan Eagles Thursday at home at James A Rhodes Arena. It's their third straight three-set sweep.
The victory moved the Zips' record to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in MAC action.
Lauren Baker finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Zips offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .471. Akron got 10 digs and six blocks from Eliska Vytiskova along with six rejections from Ellen Kinnaird to lead them defensively.

» The Akron front row did a great job defensively, picking up 10.5 blocks in the match.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips took set one 25-17 thanks to a strong performance on the attacking end. Akron put together a .433 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory. The Zips ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Akron got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Eastern Michigan attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron built on a set-one win by securing a 25-18 victory in set two. The Zips scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Akron opened its biggest lead of the stanza, seven points, to close out the set. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Zips the set the third set 25-22. Akron took the lead for good at 22-21 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
