Zips Sweep Kent State on Thursday Night

AKRON, OH --The Akron volleyball team got the job done in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 29-27) to take down rival Kent State Golden Flashes Thursday at home at James A Rhodes Arena.
The victory boosted the Zips' record to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in MAC action. Kent State falls to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Faith Johnson, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Genevieve Hara also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Eliska Vytiskova chipped in with 10 digs to go with seven blocks from Melisa Tore.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips cruised to an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-18. Akron grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that had just one lead change before the Zips took over the lead.
SET 2 | Akron built on a set-one win by securing a 25-20 victory in set number two. The Zips never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that featured 12 ties and five lead changes.
SET 3 | Akron then ended the match with a victory in set number three. The Zips trailed by as many as eight points at 12-4 before rallying to win 29-27, totaling 17 kills along the way. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Kent State attacks in the stanza.
