Zips Fall in Four Sets to Ohio

ATHENS, OH --The Akron volleyball team lost on Saturday on the road at the Convocation Center as the Ohio Bobcats posted a 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 22-25, 10-25) victory
The loss dropped Akron's record to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in MAC play. Ohio is now 6-8 overll and 1-1 in conference matches.
The Zips offense was paced by Faith Johnson, who finished with 13 kills on the day, and Ellen Kinnaird, who had 12 while hitting .500. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 17 and Genevieve Hara had 14.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early hole, losing a nail-biter first set 25-23. Ohio won in a set that was tied up four times before the Bobcats took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron responded to pick up a 26-24 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Zips earned the set victory powered by a solid showing on the attacking end. Akron put together a .325 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Zips opened up a 15-10 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 3 | Ohio responded to win set number three, putting Akron in a two sets to one hole. The Zips fought back from an eight-point hole at 19-11, but Ohio hung on to win the set 25-22.
SET 4 | Akron then fell in the fourth set 25-10 to finish off the match. The Zips trailed a majority of the set as Ohio grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Akron wasn't able to recover once the Bobcats took over.

The Akron Zips will be back at home for two matches against rival Kent State. James A. Rhodes arena will play host for Thursday's match at 6 p.m. and Friday's match at 6 p.m.
