State College, Pa. – Akron golfers Daphne van Son and Abbi Fleiner finished 36 holes of the Nittany Lion Invitational ranked in the Top 10 of the players' leaderboard as the Zips are currently ranked eighth overall with a 603 (+27) team total.
Van son leads the Akron scoring with an even-par 144, firing an opening round 2-under par 70 and a second-round 2-over ledger. Van Son collected four birdies on the initial 18-holes at the 6,402-yard, Par 72 Penn State Blue Course and buried a pair of birdies on the second 18. She gathered 24 par scores and six bogeys, standing a tied for fourth overall.
Fleiner currently sits at 10th overall with a 147 (+3) score after 36 holes. She carded rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2), while also posting six birdies – three in each round. Fleiner added 21 par scores.
Avery Wright finised third in scoring for Akron (+11, 80-75 – 155), while Jessica Hahn and Hridhika Vora posted 157 (+13) scores.
Akron will be back on the course on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., starting on holes 9-12.
