Kormuth Leads Akron through First Round of MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips golf team carded a 293 (+13) opening round team score at the MAC Championships as Kaitlin Kormuth led the way for the Zips with a even par 70 score during the first round of the MAC Championships at Firestone Country Club on Sunday.
Kormuth currently ranks inside the Top 10 of the players' leaderboard at th overall. She finished the front 9-holes at 1-under par, registering her first birdie on the 317-yard, No. 4 hole and followed with a second bogey on No. 9 after a bogey. After the turn, she registered three straight par scores before the third birdie of the day on No. 13 to finish the round at even par. In total, Kormuth recorded 13 par scores and three birdies.
Maisarah Hezri followed in scoring for Akron with a 2-over par 72 score, ranking 14th overall. Hezri finished the front-9 even par with three birdies. She added a birdie on the back-9 to bring her daily to total to four birdies mixed with nine par scores.
Kirida Goethe Na Songkhla was third in scoring for the Zips and 21st overall with a 4-over 74 in her MAC Championship debut. Na Songkhla registered 11 par scores and a pair of birdies, while Sohniya Chandra Mohan (40th) and Hridhika Vora (43rd) rounded out the scoring with 77 (+7) and 78 (+8) first round totals, respectively.
The Zips rank sixth overall heading into the Monday's second 18-hole round behind Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Bowling Green, Ball State and Western Michigan. Second round action begins at 9 a.m. as the Zips tee-off from hole No. 1 with Vora (9 a.m.) leading the way followed by Chandra Mohand (9:10 a.m.), Na Songkhla (9:20 a.m.), Hezri (9:30 a.m.) and Kormuth (9:40 a.m.).
