AKRON, Ohio - The fifth-rated University of Akron men's soccer team got a two-goal performance from junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) in a 2-0 shutout victory over No. 11 FIU on Monday (Sept. 11) at home at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Akron opened the scoring when Shokalook notched his third goal of the season in the fourth minute knocking in a deflection from six yards out.
The Zips added another tally on a goal from Shokalook - his third goal of the season - in the 10th minute, assisted by senior Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.). For the second consecutive year he netted a brace and the game-winning goal against Florida International.
Game Notes
- Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) totaled four saves for the Zips out of 14 total Panthers' shots.
- Akron totaled seven shots on goal.
Akron opens BIG EAST play hosting Providence in a 7 p.m. tilt on Friday (Sept. 15) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
