AKRON, Ohio - The third-rated University of Akron men's soccer team trailed Providence, 3-1, at halftime, but rallied to tie up the game at three with an equalizer from sophomore Daragh Reilly (Meath, Ireland) in the 87th minute on Friday (Sept. 15) at FirstEnergy Stadium.

How it Happened

Providence took a 1-0 lead when Diego Batista scored in the seventh minute on a successful penalty kick.

The Friars took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Gevork Diarbian in the 32nd minute, assisted by Pearse O'Brien.

Akron got on the scoreboard to make it a 2-1 game on junior Josh Hallenberger's (San Antonio, Texas) 42nd-minute goal, his first of the season. Sophomore Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio) assisted the goal.

The Friars made it a 3-1 lead with a 43rd-minute goal from Nathan Messer, assisted by Miguel Candela.

Akron made it a 3-2 game on junior Jason Shokalook's (Erie, Pa.) fourth goal of the season, a succesful penalty kick, in the 78th minute.

The Zips evened the game at 3-3 thanks to an 87th-minute goal from Reilly, his first career goal. Senior Josef Paulus (Hinckley, Ohio) and Shokalook assisted the goal. The 3-3 score held to the finish.

Game Notes

Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) totaled three saves for the Zips out of eight total Friars shots.
