Akron Volleyball Releases 2023 Schedule

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron volleyball team unveiled its 2023 schedule, featuring 29 matches, including 13 home contests, second-year head coach Tyson Norton announced Tuesday.

Akron opens the season with seven matches on the road, starting with the Panther Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26. Akron is slated to play Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso and Louisiana Monroe. Game times and dates are still to be announced.

The Zips will be back in tournament play the second weekend of the season at the Marshall Invitational, battling Morehead State on Friday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. followed by matches on Saturday, Sept. 2 against UNC-Greensboro (11 a.m.) and Marshall (6 p.m.). The final road contest of the opening stretch has the Zips traveling to Cleveland State on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.

Akron's home opener is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8 as the Blue & Gold hosts Harvard (11 a.m.) and Bucknell (6 p.m.) at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Zips round out the non-conference slate against Youngstown State on the road Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.,before returning to the JAR for a rematch against the CSU Vikings on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

Mid-American Conference play opens in Athens, Ohio as Akron battles the Bobcats on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23 at 7 and 4 p.m., respectively. The squad returns to the JAR for a four-match stretch against rival Kent State on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29 with both matches starting at 6 p.m. Akron will also host Eastern Michigan (Oct. 5, 6 p.m.) and Central Michigan (Oct.6, 6 p.m.) during the stretch followed by home matches against Toledo (Oct. 20-21, 6 & 4 p.m.) and Bowling Green (Nov. 3-4, 6 & 4 p.m.) before closing out the home schedule against Buffalo on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

Akron will travel to Ball State (Oct. 12-13, 6 p.m.), Buffalo (Oct. 17, 6 p.m.), Northern Illinois (Oct. 27, 6 p.m.), Western Michigan (Oct. 28, 3 p.m.) and Miami (Nov. 10-11, TBA).

The MAC Tournament slated for Nov. 21-23 and will be hosted by the highest seeded team.
