Akron Softball Duo Earns NFCA All-Region Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Led by redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio), who garnered Second-Team All-Mideast Region softball accolades, a pair of University of Akron Zips earned all-region honors when the National Fastpich Coaches Associations unveiled its 2023 award winners on Thursday, May 18.
Freshmen Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) rounded out the Zips' recipients pulling in third-team laurels.

DeVoe is the first Akron designated player (non-pitcher) to earn all-regional honors since Tiffany McCoy during the 2000 season, while Sivek became the initial Zip's second baseman to be honored since Tracee McCoy in 2000.

DeVoe appeared in 49 games for Akron this season, including 43 starts en route to hitting .328, the second-highest mark on the squad. She added team-high marks in doubles (14), walks (25), slugging percentage (.533) and on-base percentage (.458), while collecting 40 hits, 21 RBI and 21 runs scored across 65 total bases. In league-only games, DeVoe hit a team-best .346 on the strength of 27 hits, 18 runs scored, 11 RBI across 41 total bases and team-high marks in slugging percentage (.526) and on-base percentage (.475). Additionally, she ranked second in the MAC in doubles (14) and ninth in walks (25)
Turning in a stellar rookie campaign, Sivek started all 51 of the Zips' games en route to earning First-Team All-MAC accolades for the initial time. She registered a team-leading .361 batting average on the strength of team-best marks in hits (69), at-bats (191), runs scored (42) and total bases (73), while going 23-for-26 in stolen bases. In league-only affairs, she posted a .343 batting average sparked by team-high marks in at-bats (108), runs scored (24), hits (37), total bases (41) and sacrifice hits (3) and was a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts. In the field Sivek posted a .943 fielding average.
