South Bend, Ind. – The Akron Zips held a one run lead in the fifth inning, but the Fighting Irish from Notre Dame plated runs in the sixth and eighth innings for a 5-4 win at Frank Eck Stadium on Saturday.

Akron (18-32) scattered seven hits in game two of the series as juniors OF Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.) and 2b DJ Butler (Chicago, Ill.) led the offense with two hits each. Firestone recorded his 16^th homerun of the season, increasing the Zips single season homerun mark. He went 2-of-5 for the game and launched a solo homerun in the third inning to cut Notre Dame's lead in half, 2-1.

Butler registered a 2-of-4 performance with a run scored, plating the run in the fifth inning on a three-run homerun by graduate SS Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.). Arrivo's bomb down the left field line also plated junior OF Jack Poist ( Hoover, Ala.), who recorded a 1-of-2 performance and reached on a hit by pitch. Sophomore OF Sam Seeker (Norton, Ohio) rounded out the offensive production with a 1-of-3 effort.

Notre Dame (28-19) started the scoring in the second inning and established a 2-0 lead, however Firestone cut the deficit in half for the Zips, 2-1, with his 16^th homerun of the season to right field in the third inning. After the fighting Irish answered with a run in the fourth inning 3-1, Akron claimed a 4-3 advantage as Arrivo launched a three-run homerun down the left field line in the fifth inning. One inning later, the fighting Irish tied the game and pushed the winning run across the plate in the eighth inning.
