AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team captured a pair of Mid-American Conference titles on the opening day of the league's outdoor track and field championships on Thursday (May 11) at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) became the second Akron men's runner to win the men's 10,000 meters in program history crossing the line in 30:00.61 to garner his first career MAC crown.
• Sophomore Brynn Rychlik (Marysville, Ohio) captured her first career MAC title eclipsing 12-8 (3.86m) to win the women's pole vault.
• Redshirt junior Laurel Bristow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) garnered Second-Team All-MAC accolades with a runner-up performance in the women's javelin with a mark of 136-8 (41.66m).
• Sophomore Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio) added valuable team points for the Zips placing seventh in the women's 10,000 meters in a time of 38:06.76.
• Senior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) registered a career-best and No. 2 time in outdoor program history of 23.42 in the women's 200 meters to earn an automatic qualifying mark for the final.
• Sophomore Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) recorded an automatic qualifying time of 60.52 in the preliminary round of the women's 400-meter hurdles.
• Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) crossed the line in 52.43 to earn an automatic qualifying time in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
