May 11 | Women's Basketball
AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's basketball squad under the leadership of first-year head coach Ryan Gensler, has added Morgan Haney (Piqua, Ohio) and Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) to the squad's signing class for the 2023-24 campaign.
A native of Piqua, Ohio, Haney, a 5-8 guard comes to Akron as a graduate transfer from Albany, where she averaged 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game a year ago to lead the Great Danes to a 22-12 record, including a 14-2 mark and a share of the America East Conference regular season title. As a redshirt sophomore during the 2021-22 campaign, she was named the America East Sixth Player of the Year on the strength of leading the team with 71 assists, 2.2 assists per game, 43 steals, and 1.3 steals per tilt to spark the Great Danes to an America East Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament with a 23-10 record.
Gensler on Haney – "I am thrilled to welcome Morgan back home as she finishes her MBA at Akron. A proven winner at Albany, she brings experience and ability to score in multiple ways. We will feel her drive to compete for championships immediately."
A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Mobley, a 5-7 guard comes to Akron from Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill., where she averaged 21.8 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.1 assists per contest as a sophomore en route to shooting more than 50 percent (.503) from the field. As a freshman, she netted 13.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.1 assists per game.
Gensler on Mobley – "I am very excited to welcome Alexus to the Akron family. Alexus is a dynamic wing who has grown exponentially as a player, student, and person in her time at Danville. Her hard-working approach and competitiveness will be most welcomed."
