Akron Falls to Western Michigan in Series Opener

Juniors Jack Poist (Hoover, Ala.) and DJ Butler (Chicago, Ill.) combined for half of the Zips offensive production, collecting four of Akron's eight hits. Poist and Butler both registered 2-of-4 performances as Poist scored two runs on two base hits, and Butler issued a double, single, run scored and an RBI.
Western Michigan (8-19,5-5 MAC) scored five runs in the second and third innings for an early 10-0 advantage. Akron (12-17,5-8 MAC) countered with a run in the fourth inning, but the Broncos plated three runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Zips went on to score four more runs as junior Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) drove in a pair of runs with a double.
