Akron Falls to CMU in Series Finale

AKRON, Ohio – An old-fashioned pitching duel dominated the initial five innings of the series finale, but Central Michigan push a few runs across the plate in the later innings for a 3-0 win at Skeeles Field on Saturday.
Both teams generated four hits without pushing any runs across the plate after five inning of play, but Central Michigan (24-13, 12-5 MAC) started the scoring in the sixth, plating two runs after loading the bases with no outs. The Chippewas scattered three hits for the 2-0 advantage, and two innings later, CMU added a run with a solo blast to right field for a 3-0 lead.
Akron (14-24, 6-14 MAC) scattered four hits in the game as junior DH Jack Poist (Hoover, ala.) and senior 3B Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) belted doubles, while junior OF Sam Seeker (Norton, Ohio) and junior 2B Breydan Cavey (Medina, Ohio) recorded singles.
The Chippewas registered nine hits as Akron freshman SP Joe Roth (Austintown, Ohio) received the loss is six innings of work, allowing seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts. Freshman RP Emmett Gillies (Columbus, Ohio) hurled the final three innings for the Zips, limiting the Chippewas to two hits and one run with three strikeouts.

The Zips have a pair of midweek games, starting on the road at Youngstown State on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. and returning to Skeeles Field on Wednesday, April 26 against Malone at 3 p.m. In MAC play, Akron is scheduled to travel to Northern Illinois on Friday through Sunday, April 28-30.
