KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Akron baseball team plated four runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 advantage, but couldn't overcome an eight-run scoring outburst by Western. Michigan on Sunday at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.

The Broncos (9-20,6-6 MAC) scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings followed by a four-run surge in the fifth for an 11-5 lead. The Zips (13-18,6-9 MAC) added runs in the seventh and ninth to make it 12-7. With the win, the Broncos claimed a 2-1 lead in the series.

Graduate IF Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) led the Zips offense, collecting two of the Zips' six hits. Arrivo also walked and scored a pair of runs with one RBI. Junior OF Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.) recorded his 12^th homerun of the season, with a solo homerun to centerfield in the ninth inning. Junior IF Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas), junior IF DJ Butler (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore IF Max Bowman (Gahanna, Ohio) collected one hit each.

For the series, Firestone led the offense with a .417 batting average on 5-of-12 with two homeruns, four runs scored and two RBI. Butler followed with a .400 average on 4-of-10 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, while junior OF Jack Poist (Hoover, Ala.) registered a .308 average. Poist went 4-od-13 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
