GENEVA, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team posted four victories as part of 16 overall top-five finishes at the Spire Indoor Games at the Spire Institute on Saturday, Feb. 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Redshirt junior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) crossed the line first in the women's 800 meters in a time of 2:13.70.
• Redshirt senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) captured the women's 5,000 meters in a career-best time of 17:34.50.
• Sophomore Adaeze Nwokike (Benin Cty, Nigeria) won the women's 60-meter hurdles crossing the line in 8.81.
• The men's distance medley relay squad of senior Marc Carrera (Staten Island, N.Y.), redshirt sophomore Jean Dieuvil (North Miami Beach, Fla.), redshirt junior Colt Hemphill (Louisville, Ohio) and freshman Zayd Elkurd (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) captured the event in a time of 10:21.55
• Redshirt junior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a career-long mark of 64-6 (19.66m) to place second in the men's weight throw.
• Elkurd placed second in the men's mile in a career-best time of 4:13.40.
• Junior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished second in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2.75 (7.08m).
• Redshirt junior Caleb Mabins (Erie, Pa.) garnered a runner-up finish in the men's triple jump with a career-best mark of 48-6 (14.78m).
• The women's distance medley relay team of sophomore Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.), redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), Harden and Makenna Heimlich placed second with a time of 12:45.60.
