Zips Cruise to Victory at Miami

OXFORD, OH --The Akron volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-10, 25-14) over the Miami RedHawks Saturday on the road at Millett Hall.
The conference victory improved Akron's record to 13-15 overall and 8-9 in MAC action.
The Zips attack was paced by Faith Johnson, who finished with 12 kills on the day, and by Lauren Baker, who had 10 kills while hitting .375. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Mia Thompson had 11 and Vanessa Del Real had 10. From the front row, Karleighana Jones contributed five blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips cruised to an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-16. Akron never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Zips took over.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Akron put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-10 victory in set number two. The Zips led from the opening point on in the set to earn the victory. Akron opened up as much as a 15 point lead at 24-9 before finishing off the set. The Zips hit .500 over the course of the set. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Miami attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Zips grabbed control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-14. Akron led by as many as 11 points at 23-12 before finishing off the stanza.
Up Next
The Zips will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday, November 15 against Buffalo. They will also celebrate Fan Appreciation Day with free admission to all in attendance.Â
