Akron Notches 2-0 Shutout Win Over Northern Kentucky

AKRON, Ohio - The fourth-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team got a pair of second-half goals from junior Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) in a 2-0 shutout win against Northern Kentucky on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
After the two sides battled through a scoreless opening half in which the Zips outshot the Norse, 10-1, Shokalook netted what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 55th minute off assists from senior Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario).
The Zips went up 2-0 in the 63rd minute on the second tally of the evening from Shokalook - his eighth goal of the season and second consecutive contest netting a brace. He was assisted on the goal by Fitzgerald and junior Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal (Carbondale, Ill.).
Game Notes
- Redshirt sophomore GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) pulled in a pair of saves for the Zips to notch his fourth shutout on the campaign.
- Akron peppered 10 shots on goal

Akron hosts DePaul in a noon showdown on Saturday (Oct. 7) at FirstEnergy Stadium. Fans attending the contest are asked to park in parking decks Lot 1 or Lot 36 as Akron Football parking rules and rates will be in effect with the Zips hosting Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.
