Zips Fall in 4-Set Match to Toledo

AKRON, OH --The Akron volleyball team fell on Friday as the Toledo Rockets posted a four set (20-25, 18-25, 30-28, 21-25) win at home at the James A Rhodes Arena.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in MAC action. Toledo improves to 9-12 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
The Zips offense was paced by Lauren Baker, who finished with 19 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .250, and by Faith Johnson, who had 12 kills. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 19 and Eliska Vytiskova had 14. From the front row, Ellen Kinnaird contributed six blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-20. Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Rockets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Akron then dropped the second set 25-18 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Akron trailed by as many as seven points as Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Rockets took the lead for good.
SET 3 | Akron got on the board after a win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Zips trailed by seven points at 14-7 before rallying to win 30-28. Akron grabbed the lead in the back and forth set, collecting 17 kills along the way. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Toledo attacks in the set.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't keep the momentum and lost in set four 25-21 to drop the match. The Zips trailed by as many as six points as Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Akron was never able to recover in the set.
The Zips will be back in action tomorrow afternoon. First serve from the James A Rhodes Arena between the Toldeo Rockets and the Zips is scheduled for 4 p.m.
