Volleyball Preps for Tuesday Night Match at Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron volleyball team will hit the road for a single match against Buffalo on Tuesday evening for another Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup in New York.

The Zips (10-9, 5-3 MAC) come into Tuesday's match after having their four game win streak snapped with back-to-back losses at Ball State on Thursday (0-3) and Friday (1-3). Akron looks to get back in the win column against Buffalo (16-4, 6-2 MAC) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y. to close out a short road trip for the Zips.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
In the two matches against the Cardinals, Faith Johnson led the Zips attack with a combined 22 kills and Lauren Baker had 20. Vanessa Del Real had three aces in Friday's match to add to the Akron effort. Defensively Ellen Kinnaird had a combine five blocks on the weekend and Del Real had 17 digs. Both matches saw Eliska Vytiskova lead the Zips with 21 assists on Thursday and 34 assists on Friday. Within the MAC, Akron is the only team averaging more than two aces per set (2.21) and have totaled 168 services aces on the season. Vytiskova (.53), Del Real (.49), and Johnson (.39) are all ranked in the top ten of the MAC in aces per set – and the Zips are the only team to have three players in the top ten, with only Kent State having more than one with two players.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Buffalo is coming off a five-set loss at Toledo on Saturday and similarly ended a four-game win streak. Between Friday and Saturday, the Bulls played ten sets against Toledo. Both matches started with the Rockets taking the first two sets. On Friday, Buffalo battled back for the win three players earning double-digit kills and Mandy Leigh had 57 assists to tie a season-high and surpassed the 3,000 career assists mark. In Saturday's five-set affair Katrin Trebichavska had five aces to bring her season total to 45 and leads the conference.

The Zips will have a busy week as after their Tuesday match, they will return home for two matches against Toledo on Friday October 20 at 6 p.m. and Saturday October 21 at 4 p.m.
