Cardinals Best the Zips in 4 Sets

MUNCIE, IND. --The Akron volleyball team lost Friday as the Ball State Cardinals posted a 3-1 (12-25, 25-22, 15-25, 21-25) win on the road at the Worthen Arena.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in MAC play. Ball State improves their win streak to nine and their record improves to 11-8 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
The Zips offense was paced by Faith Johnson, who finished with 12 kills on the day. Lauren Baker added 11 kills and Ellen Kinnaird chipped in with 10 of her own as part of balanced Akron attack. Defensively, had three players reach double figures in digs, including Eliska Vytiskova's 15, 14 from Vanessa Del Real, and 12 more from Emanouela Christodoulou.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-12. Akron trailed by as many as 14 points as Ball State earned the first point and never gave up the lead.
SET 2 | Akron fought back after dropping the first set to take the second set 25-22, evening the match at 1-1. The Zips rallied after being down as many as seven points at 18-11 to win the set. Akron jumped in front at 23-22 and held on for the victory. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Ball State took a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Zips in set three. Akron fell in a tough set 25-15 as they trailed by as many as 10 points as Ball State grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up three times before the Cardinals took over the lead.
SET 4 | Akron then dropped the fourth set 25-21 to finish off the match. The Zips came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
