After Four Straight Wins at Home Volleyball Hits the Road this Weekend

AKRON, Ohio – After four straight wins at home, their largest win streak since the 2019 season, the University of Akron volleyball team heads on the road for two matches at Ball State. The Zips will look to extend their win streak and spoil the Cardinal's perfect record in conference play.

The Zips (10-7, 5-1 MAC) will begin a short road stretch after having four straight home matches. Their first stop will be in Muncie, Indiana for matches on Thursday and Friday against Ball State (9-8, 6-0 MAC). Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Worthen Arena.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Akron will take the road after four straight MAC home victories against Kent State (3-0, 3-0), Eastern Michigan (3-0), and Central Michigan (3-2). In the past two weeks, the Zips have had a total of three players named as the MAC Player of the Week – Faith Johnson (Offensive, week of Oct. 2), Eliska Vytiskova (Setter, week of Oct. 2), and Ellen Kinnaird (Defensive, week of Oct. 9). Kinnaird had 12 blocks and five aces combined against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. Against Eastern Michigan last Thursday, the Zips tallied 10.5 blocks in a strong defensive showing as well as adding nine more blocks on Friday against Central Michigan. Akron sits in second place in the MAC East Division behind Buffalo as they look to continue their winning ways this weekend.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Ball State will enter the series at 9-8 overall, but have won their last seven in a row, including six straight MAC victories over Central Michigan (3-0, 3-0), Eastern Michigan (3-0, 3-0), Miami (3-1), and Bowling Green (3-1). The Cardinals are sitting in second place in the MAC West Division. In their most recent match, Aniya Kennedy had 21 kills, while Megan Wielonski had 42 assists and 12 digs. On October 9, Kennedy was named the MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week combining for 38 kills and seven total blocks on the week.

The Akron Zips will close out this road trip when they travel to Buffalo on Tuesday, October 17 for a 6 p.m. match before returning home for their weekend series against Toledo on October 20 and 21.
