AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at home to Northern Illinois on Sunday (Oct. 1) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The two teams battled through a scoreless opening half before Akron surrendered what proved to be the game-winning tally on a goal in the 78th minute by Reegan Kingpavong.
In her first appearance on the campaign, junior GK Maxima Carlitz (Stolberg, Germany) led Akron with seven saves.
The Zips totaled nine shots, two of them on goal. Akron faced 19 Northern Illinois shots, eight of them on goal.
