No. 18 Akron Earns Come-from-Behind 3-1 Victory over VCU

AKRON, Ohio – The 18th-ranked University of Akron men's soccer team scored three unanswered second-half goals to notch a come-from-behind 3-1 triumph past VCU (0-2) in the Zips' home opener on Monday, Aug. 29 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Akron (2-0) garnered tallies from sophomores Josh Hallenberger (San Antonio, Texas) and Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) along with junior Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.) in the 50th (49:07), 55th (54:41) and 69th (68:27) minutes, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After the Rams assumed a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute (13:25), Hallenberger netted the equalizer for Akron at the 49:07 mark for his first career goal as a Zip. Earning assists on the tally were Clapier and sophomore Gyuwon Chong (Kansas City, Mo.)
• Clapier garnered the game-winning goal in the 55th minute (54:41) for Akron courtesy of an assist from junior Ryan Kingsford (Herne Bay, England) to give the Zips a 2-1 lead.
• Fitzgerald capped the scoring at the 68:27 mark finding the back of the net for the second consecutive contest with a header that found best the VCU goalkeeper off an assist from Clapier.
• Akron finished the evening posting a 24-4 edge in shots, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.
• Clapier registered a game-high seven shots, including three on net, while junior Will Jackson (Hudson, Ohio) tallied five shots.
