2022 AKRON MEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULE
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer team unveiled a challenging 2022 fall slate, one that will see the Zips face seven opponents from the 2021 NCAA Tournament field, 10th-year head coach Jared Embick announced today.
In 2022, the Zips' 11-match season-ticket package features trips to FirstEnergy Stadium from NCAA Tournament participants Oakland, Bowling Green and Northern Illinois, as well as Michigan State and Ohio State from the Big Ten Conference.
Akron is set to return seven starters in 2022, including 2021 All-MAC performers, junior Ryan Kingsford (Herne Bay, England) and sophomores Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) and Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario).
The Zips commence their 68th season of intercollegiate soccer traveling to Miami, Fla., to battle 2021 NCAA Tournament participant Florida International on Aug. 25, before hosting VCU in Akron's home opener on Aug. 29.
The Mid-American Conference has decided to bring back its round-robin home-and-home format this fall that was utilized during the 2021 spring campaign with each of the five league schools playing each other twice for a total of eight conference games.
The month of September includes home league contests versus Wright State (Sept. 2), Michigan State (Sept. 5), Ohio State (Sept. 13) and Duquesne (Sept. 28), while also featuring non-conference tilts at 2021 NCAA Tournament participants Indiana (Sept. 9), Pittsburgh (Sept. 19) and Penn State (Sept. 25). The Panthers, Nittany Lions and Hoosiers were seeded fifth, 12th and 15th, respectively, in the 2021 tournament field.
The Zips face a challenging month of October as Akron will open MAC play hosting Northern Illinois (Oct. 2), before facing three consecutive league road contests at Bowling Green (Oct. 6), Chicago State (Oct. 9) and Western Michigan (Oct. 13). Akron returns home on Oct. 17 to battle Bowling Green and Cleveland State (Oct. 25) before drawing their road schedule to a close at Northern Illinois (Oct. 29).
The Zips the close out their regular season campaign with home tests versus Chicago State and Western Michigan on Nov. 2 and Nov. 6, respectively. The top-two finishers in league play will square off for the MAC title and an automatic NCAA Tournament berth on Nov. 12.
