Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Akron Zips baseball team fell 16-0 in the series finale at top-ranked Central Michigan as the Chippewas completed a four-game sweep and extended its winning streak to 17 games on Sunday at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.

The Chippewas (28-10, 21-1 MAC) pitching staff gave Akron trouble, allowing only five baserunners on two hits, a pair of walks and a hit batsman. Senior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) recorded the Zips first hit in the third inning as the lead-off batter with a single through the right side. In the seventh inning, graduate Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) singled to left field. Freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) wash it by a pitch to open the frame and drew a walk erlier in the contest. Senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) also walked.

CMU scattered 21 hits and plated their first run in the opening frame. The Chippewas followed with five in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth for the win.

The Zips will host Baldwin Wallace in a mid-week game on Tuesday, April 26 at Skeeles Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
