Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Central Michigan winning streak stayed intact as the Chippewas defeated Akron 8-0 and 4-2, extending its winning streak to 16 games on Saturday at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.

Akron registered four hits in game one as freshman Ian Pennington (Springboro, Ohio), freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.), graduate Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and freshman Michael Sprockett (West Chester, Ohio) all had singles. CMU scored one run in four-straight innings and added a four-run inning in the fifth and claimed the 8-0 decision.

The nightcap was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Zips pushed two runs across the plate. Akron started the scoring after Pennington walked and graduate Justin Barr (Pensacola, Fla.) bunted for a base hit. With runners in scoring position, senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) blasted a single up the middle to score Pennington and Barr. CMU scored on run in the bottom half of the inning and added a run in the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth inning, the Chippewas scored two runs on a pair of doubles and a sacrifice flyout for the 4-2 win.
Barr and Shellenbarger led Akron with two hits each, while Pennington, Benson Sprockett and senior Zac Granger (Elmira, N.Y.) each had one hit to complete the Zips eight hits for the game.
