MUNCIE, Ind. – The Akron Zips fell to 0-3 in the series against Ball State as the Cardinals claimed Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 5-1 and with one game remaining on Easter Sunday
Junior Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) bunted for a base hit in the third inning and graduate student Jackson Hass (Cincinnati, OH) doubled to send the Zips first run across the plate. Hara and senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio) added hits in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, but the Zips couldn't push the runs across the plate.
With Akron leading 1-0, Ball State's Trenton Quartermaine sent a two-run shot over the right field wall to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage. The Cardinals plated three runs in the fourth to cap the scoring in the seven-inning contest.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals did not allow the Zips to cross the plate as Akron only managed to pound out three hits. Harra, Freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and junior Greyson Droste (Fishers, Ind.) collected the hits, while Hara touched the base pads twice, earning a walk.
The Zips are scheduled to be back in action for the final game of the series on Easter Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex. Fans can follow the action via live stats on GoZips.com.
