AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron lacrosse team will be challenged by a pair of road contests this upcoming week as the Zips square off against Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Wednesday, March 23, before a non-conference showdown at Pittsburgh on Monday, March 28.

Opening draw against the Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference tilt is set for 1 p.m., while Akron battles the Panthers in a 5 p.m. match.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.), who own 67 and 52 shots, respectively, have headlined Akron's offensive efforts this season. Kiefer, Boyd and freshman Izzy Szejk (Camp Hill, Pa.) have posted a team-high 20, 19 and eight goals, respectively, while Boyd has registered team-best marks in points (23), assists (4), draw controls (62) and ground balls (30), while ranking second in goals (19) and shots (52). Sophomore GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) has turned in 82 saves for Akron on the year.

Kiefer rates second in the MAC in shots (67), third in shots per outing (6.70), sixth in goals (20) and seventh in goals per game (2.00). Boyd is ranked sixth in shots (52), seventh in goals (19), ninth in goals per tilt (1.90) and 10th in points (23). Lapp ranks first in the conference in goals against average (11.55) and in save percentage (.458), second in saves (82) and fourth saves per tilt (8.20).

Akron is squaring off against Central Michigan for the third time in program history with the Chippewas leading the all-time series, 2-0. The Chippewas are off to a 4-5 start on the campaign, including a 2-1 mark in league play, following a 12-11 setback at Cincinnati on Friday, March 18. Junior Audrey Whiteside directs the Central Michigan offensive attack with team-high marks in assists (16), points (34) and draw controls (34), while senior Maggie Diebold has posted team-best totals in goals (23), shots (62), shots on goal (450. Junior GK Erin Owens has collected 65 saves on the campaign for the Chippewas. Central Michigan is led by seventh-year head coach Sara Tisdale, who owns a 46-52 ledger as a head coach for the Chippewas and is 96-60 in 10 overall campaigns as a head coach.

Akron is encountering Pitt for the first time in program history. The Panthers are off to an 5-5 start on the campaign in advance of their home showdown versus Boston College on Saturday, March 26. Senior Paige Petty headlines the Pitt offensive attack with team-high marks in goals (24), points (28), shots (55), shots on goal (35) and draw controls (46). Senior GK Paulina DiFatta has recorded 89 saves on the campaign for the Panthers. Pitt is led by first-year head coach Emily Boissonneault, who owns a 5-5 ledger as head coach.

Goalkeeper Ashley Lapp is rated 14th in the NCAA in saves (82), 27th in save percentage (.458), 40th in goals against average (11.55) and 45th in saves per game (8.20). Boyd is ranked 16th in ground balls per tilt (3.00) and 21st in draw controls per contest (6.20), while Alexis Kiefer is 35th in shots per outing (6.70), 44th in shots on goal per tilt (4.90) and 54th in free position percentage (.583). Juniors Jenna Ridener (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Julia Frombach (Avon, Ohio) are rated 34th and 41st, respectively, in caused turnovers per match at 1.60 and 1.50 per match, while junior Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) is ranked 43rd in ground balls per game (2.50).
