AKRON, Ohio. - A comeback attempt from the University of Akron lacrosse team came up just short as Radford (1-6) garnered a 8-6 triumph past the Zips (2-8) in a non-conference showdown at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field on Sunday, March 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Highlanders began the contest scoring the first three goals to assume a 3-0 lead following the opening quarter.
• Junior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) got the Zips on the board with a goal off a free position shot at the 14:21 mark of the second quarter.
• Radford added the next three tallies to assume a 6-1 lead, before the Zips closed the half with three unanswered goals to enter halftime trailing by two, 6-4.
• Sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) netted the first of her two goals on the day with 3:49 left before halftime to cut Akron's deficit to 6-2.
• Junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) followed with her team-leading 20th goal of the season 31 seconds later at the 3:18 mark to make it 6-3.
• Boyd capped the first-half scoring with a tally with 1:03 remaining before halftime.
• Neither side found the back of the net in the third quarter with the score remaining at 6-4 with 15 minutes to play.
• Radford broke the scoring stalemate with two tallies to open the final period to extend its margin to 8-4.
• Kunttu inched the Zips within three, 8-5, with her second goal of the day and fifth of the year at the 7:51 mark.
• Sophomore Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) concluded the scoring on the afternoon for Akron with a tally with 2:13 left in the match off an assist from junior Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio).
• The Zips posted a 31-22 edge in overall shots, including a 24-15 margin in shots on goal.
• Boyd and Kiefer led Akron's offensive efforts registering a match-high nine and eight shots, respectively, including six and five shots on goal.
• Freshman GK Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) and sophomore GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) made four and three saves, respectively, for the Zips.
