The Akron-Bowling Green Series
Tuesday's game marks the 72nd meeting in series history between Akron and Bowling Green, and 20th meeting for a Groce coached squad. Akron holds an all-time 43-28 series advantage while Groce is 10-9 against BGSU and 7-3 at Akron. The Zips have won 32 of the last 37 games as Akron won the first meeting this season at the Stroh Center (91-66).The Zips won 2-of-3 games last season, ending the Falcons 2021 MAC Tournament run with a 74-67 win at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. The two teams split the season series with the Zips posting a 69-57 win at the Stroh Center, but Bowling Green won the rematch 83-71 at the JAR, snapping the Zips 14-game winning streak and 9-0 record in 2021.

The Falcons average a league-best 82.1 points per game on 43.6 percent shooting from the floor and 34.7 percent effort from beyond the 3-point arc, draining 8.4 triples a game. In addition, the Falcons shoot 74.7 percent from the free throw line with 15.9 FT made per game.

BGSU has three players scoring in double figures as Daeqwon Plowden leads the Falcons in scoring with 16.0 points per game, rebounds with 7.0 reb/g, 189 total boards and blocked shots (29). He shoots 41.9 percent from the floor and leads the squad at the free throw line with 107 made bonus buckets at a 79.9 percent clip. Plowden also owns a second-best 36 made 3-pointers while shooting 38.1 percent from deep.

Akron went 12-4 at Rhodes Arena in Groce's first year as head coach and followed with a 14-3 effort. The Zips went 15-2 at home in 2019-20 en route to the regular season MAC Championship. Last season the Zips posted a 9-2 mark at the JAR. Groce became the third Akron coach since 1940 to win his first six home games in the first season as head coach. The Zips rattled off seven straight wins at the JAR before falling in the MAC home opener to Buffalo. The Zips set the all-time longest home winning streak record at Rhodes Arena with 30 consecutive wins during the 2015-17 seasons, replacing the 26-game run the Zips made during the 1985-87 seasons under head coach Bob Huggins.
