Nashville, Tenn. – Junior Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) and Graduate student Jackson Haas (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Akron Zips offense with a pair of 3-for-3 performances as the Zips scattered 11 hits in a 9-4 loss to open the season at Ken Dugan Field against Lipscomb on Friday.

Hara recorded two RBI with a double and a sacrifice flyout to go along with a pair of singles and a run scored for the Zips (0-1), while Haas had a scored and reached on three singles and a hit by pitch. Freshman Cameron Benson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded a pair of extra-base hits in his collegiate debut, including a two-run homerun to score Hara. He also doubled to finish the day 2-for-5 at the plate. Seniors Zac Granger (Elmira, N.Y.) and Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) also added hits as Granger doubled and Reinhart singled and scored.

Lipscomb plated all nine runs in the first four innings for the win, including a lead-off homerun to open the game and two more for a 3-0 lead. The Bisons finished the game with eight total hits, while scoring four runs in the third and one run in each, second and fourth innings.

Relief pitcher Noah Thompson earned the win for Lipscomb, allowing only three hits in four innings of work while striking out six batters. Akron senior starting pitcher Conor Steinbaugh (Georgetown, Ill.) was credited with the loss.
