LEESBURG, Fla.- The Akron softball team (0-1, 0-0 MAC) dropped its season opener to Pitt, 10-0, in the opening game of the Northern Lights/ Southern Nights Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Senior P Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of work. Redshirt junior P Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) finished the game giving up two runs on two hits, while striking out four batter.

Pitt was able to capitalize in the second inning by scoring eight runs. Akron held the panthers without scoring runs in the third and fourth innings, but Pitt scored a pair in the fifth.

Despite getting runners on in the first, second, and fourth innings, the Zips were unable to push one across the plate as Pitt took the victory.

Redshirt sophomore Katelyn Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio) paced Akron going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while CF Molly McChesney (Verona, Wisc.) and OF Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ont.) each recorded a hit in the game.

The Zips will play two games tomorrow leading off with Northwestern at 10 a.m., and finishing with Wisconsin at 1 p.m. Fans can watch the games on FloSoftball, a subscription is required.
