The 14th-rated University of Akron men's soccer team overcame a second-half deficit en route to garnering a pivotal 3-3 draw at No. 3 Pitt on Monday, Sept. 19 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Zips collected goals from Ryan Kingsford, Dyson Clapier and Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal in the 10th (9:31), 18th (17:28) and 53rd (52:41) minutes, respectively, to earn the road result.
The Panthers came into the affair on the strength of three consecutive shutouts and had surrendered only three goals all season before Akron's efforts on the evening.

EMBICK NAMED MAC COACH OF THE YEAR
Akron men's soccer head coach Jared Embick was tabbed as the 2022 Mid-American Conference Gary V. Palmisano Men's Soccer Coach of the Year as announced by the league on Nov. 10.
In his 10th year as head coach and 16th campaign overall with Akron, Embick earned MAC Coach of the Year accolades for the second time after guiding the Zips to their 21st regular season MAC title on the strength of a 5-0-3 league mark this fall.
Embick collected the 12th MAC Coach of the Year award in Akron men's soccer program history joining Caleb Porter (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012), Ken Lolla (1993, 1995, 1998 and 2005) and himself (2019) as past recipients.
LEAGUE-BEST EIGHT ZIPS EARN ALL-MAC HONORS
Led by sophomores Jonas Buechte, Dyson Clapier and Malik Henry (Hamilton, Ontario), Will Jackson and Jason Shokalook, who garnered First-Team All-Mid-American Conference men's soccer accolades, a league-best eight University of Akron players earned All-MAC honors when the league unveiled its 2022 award winners on Nov. 10.
Juniors Johnny Fitzgerald (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Joel Sangwa (Phoenix, Ariz.) along with Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal rounded out the Zips' recipients pulling in second-team laurels.
AKRON FALLS TO WESTERN MICHIGAN IN MAC TOURNAMENT FINAL, 2-1
A first-half goal proved too much for Akron to overcome as Western Michigan claimed the Mid-American Conference Tournament title on the strength of a 2-1 victory over the Zips on Nov. 12 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Western Michigan garnered a lead they didn't relinquish with a third-minute tally (2:57) from Jaylen Shannon off an assist courtesy of Charlie Sharp. The Broncos extended their advantage to 2-0 at the 50:20 mark when Sharp delivered a tally off a corner kick from Carson Hodgson.
Overcoming playing an extended period of the second half a man down, Johnny Fitzgerald headed home his fourth goal of the season in the 78th minute (77:25) off an assist from Will Jackson and sophomore Terence Okoeguale (Pulheim, Germany) to cut the Zips' deficit to 2-1.
Akron outshot the Broncos on the afternoon, 10-9, with Dyson Clapier directing the Zips with a game-high three shots. Fitzgerald and Jackson added two strikes apiece for Akron, while GK Mitch Budler registered a trio of saves in net for the Zips. Clapier and Jackson were named to the All-Tournament team for Akron.
A LEGACY OF SUCCESS
Since 2007, the Akron men's soccer program has posted the highest winning percentage in the nation (.746), with an overall record of 234-66-41. The Zips are followed by Wake Forest, 222-73-38 (.724), Maryland, 222-70-49 (.723), North Carolina, 210-77-51 (.697) and Creighton, 208-83-37 (.691). Akron made 12 straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2007-18), earning a first-round bye in eight seasons. The Zips have advanced to the NCAA's Round of 16 in eight of their last 12 NCAA Tournament appearances. Since 1961, the Zips have advanced to the NCAA postseason 35 times, including 19 of the past 22 seasons.
AKRON TO JOIN BIG EAST CONFERENCE IN 2023
The BIG EAST Conference announced the addition of a new affiliate member, The University of Akron, in the sport of men's soccer for the 2023 season. The Zips will be eligible for the conference championship immediately.
The new conference men's soccer alignment for the BIG EAST for 2023 will consist of 12 teams: Akron, Butler, Connecticut, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova and Xavier.
The BIG EAST Conference will develop a pair of six team divisions and construct divisional scheduling. The East Division will consist of Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova. The Midwest Division will include Akron, Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier. Each team will play all five divisional members once, in addition to three cross-over matches each year. Overall, the league will transition from a 10-match conference season to eight matches.
