Zips Volleyball Regular Season Finale at Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron volleyball team travels to Buffalo, N.Y. for the 2022 regular season finale against Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. Fans can follow the action on ESPN+ or via live stats on GoZips.com.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Under first-year head coach Tyson Norton, Akron stands 6-22 and 3-14 in MAC play. The last time out, split a weekend series against Miami. Akron dropped the first match 3-0 (30-28, 25-20, 25-23) and came back with an impressive Senior Night performance for a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-23, 25-10).
Teagan Ochaya and Faith Johnson lead the Zips attack with 3.08 and 2.98 kills per set, respectively. Ochaya owns a team-high 323 kills and Johnson follows with 307 kills. Baylee Vought and Avery Brown issue the bulk of assists as Vought tosses a team-best 4.95 per set and 460 total assists compared to Brown's 4.59 per set and 399 assists.
Defensively, Akron is paced by Lauren Latka with 3.57 digs per set and a team-leading 359 total digs. Ochaya (248 digs), Johnson (213 digs) and Vought (180 digs) follow for the Zips. Above the net, Karleighana Jones and Ellen Kinnaird denied the most of the opponents' attacks as both players own a team-high 60 total blocks. Jayda Young and Ochaya follow in the blocking category with 49 and 46 blocks, respectively, while Johnson adds 36 blocks to the Zips' total denials.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
Buffalo is currently seventh in the MAC standings and looking to sneak into the sixth and final spot for the MAC Tournament. The Bulls are 17-12 overall and 9-8 in league play with four players registering 200 kills or more. Katrin Trebichavska spearheads the Bulls' offensive attack with 286 kills followed by Emma Gielas (241 kills), Cali Assaley (223 kills) and Abby Leigh (222 kills). Mandy Leigh tosses a team-high 10.60 assists per game, accounting for 1,007 of the Bulls' 1,318 helpers. Defensively, Buffalo is paced by Maria Futey with 3.50 digs per set and 374 total digs, while Trebichavska (326 digs) and M. Leigh (240 digs) follow with 3.17 and 2.53 digs per set. A. Leigh adds a team-best 112 blocks.
