BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) and junior Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) floored double-digit kills to lead the offense as the Akron volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19) against Buffalo in the season finale at Alumni Arena on Wednesday.

Ochaya scored 12.5 points in her final collegiate performance on 11 kills and a pair of blocks. She added four assists and nine digs. Johnson followed with 10 kills, one block, and a service ace for 12 points, while registering eight digs. Senior Lauren Latka also made her final debut with the Blue and Gold, anchoring the defense with 15 digs with four assists.

With the scored tied 2-2 in the first set, the Bulls used a 9-1 run to create separation on the scoreboard fueled by four Akron miscues, three kills and two service aces. The Zips brought the set back within three points (17-14), but Buffalo rallied for an 8-3 run for the win. The Bulls pulled away at 11-8 in the second frame and held on for the win, and outscored the Zips after a 6-1 run with the scored tied 10-10 in the third stanza to close out the match.

The Zips 2022 season came to a close under first-year head coach Tyson Norton with a 6-23 overall ledger and 3-15 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
