Akron Volleyball Final Homestand Includes Senior Night

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron volleyball team hosts the Miami RedHawks on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12 at James A. Rhodes Arena. The final home Mid-American Conference series of the season is slated for a 6 p.m. start on Friday, while Saturday's match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first serve. In addition, prior to the match on Saturday, Akron will honor its three seniors in outside hitters Rachel Abramson (Waddell, Ariz.) and Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) as well as defensive specialist Lauren Latka (Zionsville, Ind.).

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Under first-year head coach Tyson Norton, Akron stands 5-21 and 2-13 in MAC play. The last time out, the Zips dropped a pair of matches to Bowling Green (3-2 and 3-0) and looking to snap a six-game setback streak.
Teagan Ochaya and Faith Johnson lead the Zips attack with 3.08 and 2.87 kills per set, respectively. Ochaya owns a team-high 305 kills and Johnson follows with 278 kills. Baylee Vought and Avery Brown issue the bulk of assists as Vought tosses a team-best 4.60 per set and 400 total assists compared to Brown's 4.59 per set and 399 assists.
Defensively, Akron is paced by Lauren Latka with 3.57 digs per set and a team-leading 328 total digs. Ochaya (232 digs), Johnson (207 digs) and Vought (168 digs) follow for the Zips. Above the net, Karleighana Jones denied the most attacks by the opponents, registering a team-high 57 blocks. Ellen Kinnaird and Jayda Young follow in the blocking category with 53 and 48 blocks, respectively, while Ochaya (45) and Johnson (35) add to the Zips' total denials.
SCOUTING MIAMI (OH)
The RedHawks, under 39th-year head coach Carolyn Condit, currently sit at 6-20 overall and 1-14 in MAC play after dropping two matches to Buffalo last weekend (3-1 and 3-0). The RedHawks have lost 12 straight games. Miami's last win was on Sept. 30 against Kent State (3-2).
Offensively, the RedHawks are led by Severance, Allyson and Hanson, Ellie with 293 kills (3.18 per set) and 230 kills (2.77 per set), respectively. Abby Stratford and Maggie McCrary follow with 144 and 127 total kills. Setter Hayden Hicks leads the team with 552 assists (6.13 per set), while Lydia Harper follows with 257 (3.72 per set).
Defensively, the RedHawks have two players with over 200 digs as Ellie Hanson leads the way with 219 (2.64 per set), followed by Brooke Jackson with 218 (2.32 per set). Above the net, Miami is led by Gentry Warrick in total blocks with 51 of the team's 134 total blocks, followed by Maggie McCrary (47), and Abby Stratford (35).

Miami (OH) leads the all-time series 49-18 over Akron. Last season, Akron swept the RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio by scores of 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 27-25) and 3-2 (29-27, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14, 15-10).
