Akron Travels for a Pair of MAC Contests at Ball State and Toledo

AKRON, Ohio-Â The Akron volleyball team is slated for a pair of Mid-American Conference matches against MAC West opponents Ball State and Toledo.

On Friday, Akron travels to Worthen Arena to play the Cardinals at 6 p.m. followed by a trip to Savage Arena to play the Rockets at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Akron, under first-year head coach Tyson Norton Akron stands 4-12 and 1-4 in MAC play. Akron split the last series against Western Michigan, claiming the first match (3-2) and falling in the second (3-0) at James A. Rhodes Arena.

Teagan Ochaya and Faith Johnson lead the Zips attack with 3.32 and 2.85 kills per set, respectively. Ochaya owns a team-high 209 kills and Johnson follows with 174 kills. Baylee Vought and Avery Brown issue the bulk of assists as Vought tosses a team-best 4.52 per set and 285 total assists compared to Brown's 4.24 per set and 216 assists.

Defensively, Akron is paced by Lauren Latka with 3.34 digs per set and a team-leading 187 total digs. Ochaya (144 digs), Johnson (131 digs) and Vought (119 digs) follow for the Zips. Karleighana Jones and Ocyaha trail with 33 and 32 blocks, respectively, while Ellen Kinnaird recorded 30 total blocks.

Ball State enters the match with a 10-6 overall record and 2-2 league mark, winning back-to-back matches against Eastern Michigan (3-1 and 3-0).

Marie Plitt and Natalie Risi lead the attack with 2.52 and 2.36 kills per set, respectively. Plitt owns a team-high 161 kills and Risi follows with 151 kills. Lauren Gilliland and Natalie Mitchem add 131 and 122 total kills. Megan Wielonski is responsible for 665 of the Cardinals 779 assists, averaging 10.39 assists per set.
