Jones Leads Zips, Akron Falls at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Sophomore MB Karleighana Jones floored a team-high 12 kills and posted a team-best .385 hitting percentage as the Zips fell 3-1 on the road at Ball State on Friday evening.

Jones put away the final two kills of the second set for Akron's win, which evened the match at one set apiece. Junior OH Faith Johnson followed with 10 kills for Akron (4-13,1-5 MAC), and Freshmen Baylee Vought and Avery Brown combined for 36 of 44 assists. Vought tossed a team-high 20 assists and Brown posted 16 helpers. Senior DS Lauren Latka registered 15 digs to lead the squad, while Johnson (14 digs), Vought (13 digs) and Brown (12 digs) followed.

Ball State (11-6, 3-2 MAC) claimed the opening set 25-14 before Jones ended the second stanza 26-24 in Akron's favor. The Cardinals responded with back-to-back wins (25-9 and 25-11) to claim the match.

Cait Snyder and Natalie Mitchem led the Cardinals attack with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Mitchem posted a game-high .500 hitting percentage and collected four of Ball State's 12 team blocks. Marie Plitt led the defense above the net with six blocks and Maggie Huber recorded a team-best 24 digs.
