Ochaya, Johnson Lead Zips Offense in Wagon Wheel Setback

AKRON, Ohio – Senior Teagan Ochaya and junior Faith Johnson led the Akron volleyball with 24 of 40 kills as the Zips dropped the first of two matches to rival Kent State, 3-0, in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Wagon Wheel Challenge at the M.A.C Center on Friday.

The Flashes earned a half point for the all-sport challenge, elevating Kent State to an 1.5-0.0 advantage by winning three-straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19.

Ochaya floored 13 kills and hit a team-best .276 hitting percentage, while Johnson followed with 11 kills and hit for a .222 average. Baylee Vought tossed 20 assists and Avery Brown followed with 16 helpers to combine for 36 of 39 total assists. Defensively, Lauren Latka led the squad with 10 digs, while Ellen Kinnaird and Matalasi Danielson recorded two blocks each.
