What's Ahead
The No. 25 ranked Akron swimming and diving program moved back one slot in the January 2022 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Top 25 poll, ranking No.25 overall with 28 votes, is set to travel to the Tim Welsh Classic Meet hosted by Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22. The meet will be held at Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind. and features men's and women's squads from Notre Dame and Ohio State as well as Akron's women's team.

Regardless of vaccination status, all spectators and guests must wear a mask while inside the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The only exception is when spectators and guests are eating or drinking.

The Format:
The two-day event features three sessions, two on Friday starting at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and the final session on Saturday beginning at 11:15 a.m. Fans can follow the action via live results on GoZips.com or Meet Mobile.

The Zips Last Time Out:
The No. 23 ranked Akron swimming team hosted its final home meet of the 2021-22 season at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium as the Zips defeated the Ohio Bobcats 241-101 on Friday. With the win, Akron moved to 3-1 in dual meets this season.

Before the meet, Akron honored its 2021-22 graduating senior class as Lauren Cooper, Olivia Gardner, Paula Garcia, Kamryn Goodrick, Sofia Henell, Brooke Lamoureux, Paulina Nogaj and Sarah Watson competed for the final time at the ONAT.

Paulina Nogaj led the way, winning all three of her events, starting with the 100-yard backstroke (54.71). She went on to claim the 100-yard butterfly by 4.12 seconds with a 53.54 time and finished the 3-0 effort with a 50.54 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Brooke Lamoureux opened the meet with a 4:02.69 performance in the 400-yard freestyle and cruised to a seven-second victory in the 800-yard freestyle. Sofia Henell also posted two wins, claiming the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly event with 23.33 and 25.05 times, respectively.

Sarah Watson and Paula Garcia followed with a win and runner-up effort each. Watson touched first in the 100-yard individual medley (56.97) and claimed second in the 50-yard breaststroke, while Garcia stopped the timer first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.11 and earned second in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.74).

Andrea Fischer and Weronika Gorecka also posted two wins each as Fischer won the 50 and 200 breaststroke events with 29.55 and 2:20.08 times, while Gorecka posted wins in the 50 and 200 backstroke races with 29.55 and 2:00.77 times.

Rounding out the Zips winning performances were Kendall Craig and Gail Workman. Craig won the 300-yard individual medley (3:16.02) and Workman won the 600-yard freestyle (6:15.25).

The Akron divers competed at the UB Diving Invite over the weekend as junior Paige Kalik  led the way with a pair of Top 5 finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter events while teammates freshman McKenzie Dunigan and freshman Laurel Smith added second and third place finishes on the platform.

Kalik opened the three-day event with a third-best 274.65 score after the preliminary round with six dives at 14.5 degree of difficulty. In the finals field of 12, Kalik finished with the bronze after posting a 250.50 score. The following day, Kalik finished second overall, recording a 289.50 in prelims of the 3-meter event. Kalik maintained her position, claiming silver in the 12 diver field with a 277.60 score.

On the final day of competition, Dunigan and Smith competed in the platform event. Dunigan scored 165.65 in prelims with a174.60 final ledger for the silver, while Smith registerd scores of 152.60 (prelims) and 173.95 (finals) for a third-place finish.
