AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron women's soccer team continues its 2021 campaign this week with a pair of non-conference showdowns as the Zips visit Saint Francis (Pa.) on Thursday, Aug. 26, before hosting Cleveland State at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 29. Akron squares off against the Red Flash in a 2 p.m. matinee affair on Thursday, while entertaining the Vikings at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Akron returns eight starters in 2021, including four of its top-five goal scorers led by junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio), who posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (8), shots (13) and game-winners (2). Tallying one goal each for the Zips was redshirt junior Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland), junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.). Sophomore GK Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) returns for Akron after starting six games this past spring and recording 35 saves.

Freshman Morgan Pentz (Broadview Heights, Ohio) paces the Zips this season in goals (1), points (2), shots (3) and shots on goal (1), while freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has recorded 16 saves on the campaign.

Akron is led by seventh-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, who maintains a 31-64-14 ledger at the helm of the Zips' program, and a 281-177-44 mark in 27 campaigns overall as a head coach.

Saint Francis enters plays this Thursday, Aug. 26, standing at 0-2 on the campaign after falling 8-0 and 3-1, respectively, at Clemson and Duquesne on Thursday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 22.

The Red Flash are led by freshman Danielle Goedhart, who paces the squad in goals (1), points (2) and shots on goal (1), while ranking second in overall shots (1). Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah McConnon has started both contests for Saint Francis owning 13 saves.

Cleveland State enters play against the Zips on Sunday, Aug. 29, sporting a 1-1 mark following a 4-2 triumph past Canisius on Sunday, Aug. 22., and a 2-0 setback at Kent State on Thursday, Aug. 19.

Directing the offensive exploits for the Vikings is sophomore Kathyrn Ramicone, who scored a pair of goals in Cleveland State's victory over Canisius. She leads the Vikings in goals (2), points (4), shots (3), shots on goal (2) and game-winners (1). Sophomore goalkeeper Mollie McGuire has posted a pair of saves for Cleveland State versus the Griffins, while freshman GK Kyla Valaitis made four stops against the Golden Flashes.
