Akron travels to Oxford, Ohio for the final Mid-American Conference series of the season against Miami at McKie Field at Hayden Park on Friday-Sunday, May 21-23. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and the final on Sunday is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami RedHawks manufactured a run in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 stalemate as the visiting Akron Zips fell 3-2 in the final Mid-American Conference series of the season for the Zips on Friday evening.

Junior Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia) led the Zips offense, collecting two of the Akron's four hits in the 9-inning affair. Tilly recorded a perfect 2-for-2 performance and also reached base on a hit by pitch and scored a run. Senior Connor Regan (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) was also hit by a pitch and scored a run in an 0-for-3 effort at the plate.

Juniors Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) and Bradley Goulet (Cottage Grove, Minn) collected the Zips additional hits as Reinnhart doubled in the top of the third inning while Goulet delivered an infield single in the ninth inning.

Akron (14-33, 8-29 MAC) received another stellar performance from freshman starting pitcher Anthony Fett (Orchard Lake, Mich.). Fett allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walked batters in six innings of work. Junior Brady Mehl (Southlake, Texas) recorded the final six outs on the mound for Akron. Mehl fanned 5-of-8 batters faced and only allowed one hit.

The Zips started the scoring in the second inning as Regan reached on a Miami fielding error to open the inning. Tilly followed with a single to right-center field, and Regan scored on an error by the RedHawks centerfielder. A third Miami error plated the Zips second run a Tilly crossed the plate and junior Zac Granger (Elmira, N.Y.) reached base on the miscue.

In the bottom half of the inning, the RedHawks knotted the game, scoring two runs on two hits and an Akron error. Miami (22-26, 15-17 MAC) scattered nine hits for the game and scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the fifth inning. The RedHawks plated the run on two hits – a bunt for a base hit from Benji Brokemond followed by an RBI single to right field by Cole Andrews.

Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch at McKie Field at Hayden Park. Game two of the doubleheader will start approximately 30 minutes at the conclusion of game one. Fans can follow the action via live stats on GoZips.com.
