Akron Culminates Successful Campaign at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The University of Akron women's lacrosse team came up short in its 2021 season finale at Central Michigan (8-6, 6-2 MAC), 18-6, on Saturday, May 1.

"Central Michigan took the win today, but no one can take away how amazing this season was for us," Zips' head coach Christy Mitchell commented. "This team had to push through a lot to reach some incredible accomplishments this year. We will hold onto the big wins, as well as all the little victories. Every moment was a gift, and it is all going to propel us to an amazing future. We are proud to be Zips."

The Zips (7-8, 4-6 MAC) culminated a successful second season of growth and development as a team against the Chippewas with redshirt freshman Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) registering a team-high two goals to cap her season with a team-best 48 goals.

Freshmen Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) and Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.), redshirt freshman Abby Schaefer (Beaver Falls, Pa.) and freshman Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) rounded out Akron's scoring efforts with one goal apiece. The Zips also garnered an assist from Boyd.

Redshirt freshmen GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) and Abby Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa.) combined to register eight saves for Akron.

The Chippewas scored the game's first eight goals before Glassey scored the Zips' first tally of the afternoon at the 13:52 mark.

Boyd and Kiefer added first-half goals at the 19:39 and 27:17 marks, respectively, as Central Michigan maintained a 13-3 lead at halftime.

Akron received second-half goals from Kiefer (11:55), Silverheels (13:07) and Schaefer (26:20) en route to the Chippewas securing the triumph.
