AKRON, Ohio - A dominant first-half performance propelled the University of Akron women's lacrosse team to a decisive 17-6 triumph over rival Kent State (3-8, 2-4 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action on Tuesday, April 20 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.

On the strength of the victory, the Zips (6-7, 3-5 MAC) picked up a coveted half point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge. Akron now leads the series, 5.0-4.0.

Redshirt freshman Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) directed the offensive exploits for the Zips with a game-high five goals. Redshirt junior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.), freshmen Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.), Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) and Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) and redshirt freshmen Sarah Pattison (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) added three, three, two, two, one and one goals, respectively, for Akron.

The Zips also benefited from three assists each from McMullen and Pattison and two apiece courtesy of Boyd and Glassey.

Redshirt freshmen GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) registered 10 saves for Akron.

The Golden Flashes scored the initial tally in the match before the Zips scored the next eight goals to assume an 8-1 lead at the 20:01 mark after a tally from Dennison.

Akron held a 9-2 advantage at halftime on the strength of a 20-7 advantage in first-half shots.

The Zips continued their dominating effort in the second half scoring six of the final seven goals in the match to triumph past Kent State.

Akron is slated travel to face Detroit in a 2 p.m. tilt on Saturday, April 24.
